APSC Exam: A Comprehensive Guide

The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) conducts the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) to recruit candidates for various prestigious state services such as the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service, and other allied services.

1. Overview of APSC CCE

The APSC CCE is held to fill Group 'A' and Group 'B' vacancies under the Government of Assam.

2. Stages of the APSC Exam

The APSC CCE is conducted in three stages:

Stage I: Preliminary Examination

  • Objective type (MCQs)
  • Qualifying in nature
  • Two Papers: General Studies I and II (CSAT), 200 marks each

Note: Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying; 33% minimum required.

Stage II: Main Examination

  • Descriptive papers including Essay, GS I to IV, Optional Papers
  • Language and English papers are qualifying

Stage III: Interview

  • Personality Test – 275 marks
  • Assesses leadership, awareness, and suitability for civil services

3. Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:

Must be an Indian citizen.

Age Limit:

  • Minimum: 21 years
  • Maximum: 38 years (as of 1st January)
  • Relaxations: SC/ST – 5 yrs, OBC – 3 yrs, PwD – 10 yrs

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is required.

4. Number of Attempts

No limit, as long as within age criteria.

Prelims:

  • Polity, Economy, History, Geography
  • Science and Technology
  • Current Affairs (Assam & National)
  • Logical Reasoning

Mains:

  • Essay, GS I to IV, Ethics, Optional Subjects
  • Focus on Assamese culture, history, economy
